F1 pre season testing was eventful, to say the least. Teams and drivers delivered results that were unpredictable. Even though getting a read of who might be the champion and who might be the loser by just watching the pre season testing is difficult, however, the pre season does shed some light on wants to come when the main event starts, however, the end results depend on the productivity of the F1 drivers and teams. Let’s take a look at who StreamEast.win thinks are the winners and the losers based on the F1 pre season testing.
Winner of F1 Pre Season Testing - McLaren
It comes as no surprise that the winner of last year's constructors title took the lead in this year’s pre-season testing. The F1 team and its drivers proved just how tenacious and victory-bound McLaren is. The team enjoyed three productive and fruitful days in Bahrain, taking over the challenging track with enthusiasm. Lando Norris commanded the race simulation on day one, delivering a performance that had the people talking. Oscar Piastri got behind the wheel on day 2 of F1 pre season testing and showed his potential. Even though McLaren ranked seventh in the mileage chart, the tea was still happy and optimistic for the upcoming event.
The Loser of F1 Pre Season Testing - Sauber
One thing was clear during the 3-day F1 pre season testing that Nico Hulkenberg and rookie driver, Gabriel Bortoleto are in for a difficult season. The drivers were seen struggling to keep their Sauber in check as they tried to finish the laps during the pre season. Even though the handling improved as the testing went on, the performance that was delivered was still disappointingly low. Sauber came in ninth in the race runs as well as the qualifying simulations. The final day was the hardest for Sauber as when Bortoleto got behind the wheel a hydraulic leak occurred that resulted in the loss of time. These difficulties placed Sauber P8 in the mileage charts.
Winner of F1 Pre Season Testing – Lewis Hamilton
The pairing of Lewis Hamilton with Ferrari might prove to be invincible this season and the pre season testing just showed that. Setting the second fasted time during the pre season, the 40-year-old F1 driver proved why he is the seven-time champion of the sport. He would have achieved more if there wasn’t a technical issue on the final day of testing. This issue even though placed Hamilton 17th in the mileage charts, the driver’s spirits were still high.
“I would say this is the most positive feeling that I’ve had in a long time,” said Hamilton on the third and final day of F1 pre-season testing.
The Loser of F1 Pre Season Testing – Aston Martin
The pre season testing week was not in favor of the British team. As Aston Martin hit the tracks of Bahrain, they realized that this three-day pre-season testing was not going to be a smooth one. Over the course of the testing, the team encountered countless niggles. Due to these issues, they finished 9th in the mileage charts. However, the Aston Martin drivers, Fernando Alonso, and Lance Stroll remained optimistic stating that the team has some progress with the deliverability of the 2025 Aston Martin car.
Winners of F1 Pre Season Testing – Williams
Williams was an unexpected winner at the F1 pre season testing and we might know why: Carlos. The British team that managed to bag 9th position in the Contractors’ Championship of last year, showed the improvements that were made in the car over the winter as it glided reliability throughout the three days of pre-season testing. Williams was able to clock up 395 laps, ranking fifth in the mileage charts. Even though the challenger has also been upgraded with considerable changes, Williams also has Carlos Sains now, therefore this year, there is a possibility that Williams might bag a win.
The Loser of F1 Pre Season Testing – Red Bull
Red Bull coming out a loser in the pre season testing feels like a punch in the gut, especially with the world champion, Max Verstappen in their team. The three-day F1 pre season testing in Bahrain was like a long battle for Red Bull that it was losing miserably. Both the reigning world champion and his teammate had to hustle in order to attain the points that they did in the pre season testing because the RB21 was just not cooperating. The Red Bull drivers failed to complete a proper race simulation, ending the test with the fewest laps, 304. However, despite the hiccups involving the RB21, Red Bull was still the third-best team in race simulations and qualifying.
Winners of F1 Pre Season Testing – The Rookie F1 Drivers
This season we will be seeing five rookies take on the tracks and showcase their skills. F1 pre season testing was the time when the five rookie drivers needed to have an efficient un, and thankfully, they did. The most mileage was clocked by Racing Bulls’ driver Isack Hadjar with 243, while the other four rookies were in the top 10 of the mileage charts. The performance of the rookies in the pre season testing has got the fans anticipated for the main event, with fans waiting to see how the five youngsters will perform.
